Think of waffles beyond the usual breakfast offering with syrup. They can be used to make sandwiches or as a base for other entrees.

For pumpkin pie waffles, stir in 1/4 cup canned pumpkin plus 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice to basic recipe.
For banana flavored waffles, stir in 1/4 cup mashed banana to basic recipe.
For cornmeal waffles, omit vanilla extract and stir in: 3 tablespoons cornmeal plus 2 teaspoons paprika.
